The side-track well saw stabilised test rates in excess of pre-drill expectations. Rates of 40m standard cubic feet (gross) per day (MMscfpd) were produced through a 96/64” choke, with a tubing head pressure of more than 1,000 pounds per square inch.
The Barbarossa well will now be developed jointly with the nearby Channon discovery. Combined recoverable reserves from Channon and Barbarossa are 70bn to 80bn cubic feet net to Venture Production, with an aggregate well potential from both fields of around 80 MMscfpd net to Venture.
“With the outlook for gas prices having improved considerably since we drilled the Channon discovery well last year we now have a very attractive joint development lined up for delivery next year,” said Venture’s chief executive, Mike Wagstaff.
The Barborossa well is operated and 90% owned by Venture Production, with the remaining 10% owned by Encore Oil
